I realize that I haven't posted anything here since Memorial Day. It being Labor Day Weekend and all, I guess summer is officially over. So here are a few garden photos from our new pollinator garden.
We originally planned on it being a "pocket prairie" with plants that enjoy drier soils, but lo and behold, we discovered that its the only spot at Hogsback Acre that actually holds moisture. You see its an old in-ground pool (20' by 40') while the rest of the property is basically a sand and gravel pile with a little bit of topsoil. We have no idea what the old pool was filled with, or if the concrete was broken up to allow water to drain from it. But it definitely holds moisture and is not really suited to be a "pocket prairie". Regardless, we are really pleased with it and look forward to seeing changes in it next summer. Enjoy!
