Accipiter striatus

Rare/Year Round (<1%)  RANK: 78

Very similar in appearance to Cooper's hawks, "sharpies" are much smaller birds about the size of a Blue Jay.  Two sightings of an immature Sharp-Shinned Hawk occurred on December 9 and 30, 2022.  On December 9, the "sharpie" was observed at the bottom of the esker perched on a low sumac tree branch. On December 30, a sharpie unsuccessfully raided a platform bird feeder filled with American Goldfinches.
